Woods targets Grand Slam

Tiger Woods has set his sights on winning all four majors in the same year.

The 26-year-old became the first player in history to hold all four Major titles at the same time when he won the US Masters in 2001.

But there were doubts over whether his achievement should be classed as a Grand Slam as three of his wins had come in the previous year.

Now he is hoping he can banish all such doubts.

"I've done four in a row before," he said. "It would be nice to do it in the same year. It would be different to how I did it the last time."

Give him a couple more years and I think he will be even greater than Jack Nicklaus
Retief Goosen

Woods completed part one of his dream by winning the Masters on Sunday - the seventh major win of his career.

And Retief Goosen, who had to settle for second place in Augusta, did not sound too confident of retaining his US Open title in June.

"You just know Tiger's not going to make any big mistakes," the South African said.

"Give him a couple more years and I think he will be even greater than Jack Nicklaus. It's just a matter of time."

Meanwhile, Woods' victory at the Masters has seen him extend his lead at the top of the world rankings.

He heads fellow American Phil Mickelson by 6.27 points after finishing three shots clear of Goosen in Augusta.

He has now been the world number one for a record 139 successive weeks.

Padraig Harrington

Greg Norman held the previous record for weeks in a row spent at the top of the rankings - the Australian was number one for 96 straight weeks.

Ernie Els, who finished in a tie for fifth at Augusta, remains in third place, just ahead of his compatriot Goosen, who stays in fourth.

Ireland's Padraig Harrington's impressive performance in the first Major of the year sees him break into the top 10.

He moved from 12th place up to ninth after finishing joint fifth in Augusta, knocking first-round leader Davis Love III out of the top 10 in the process.

Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke slipped down one place to 12th position.
