Royal St George's is among the noblest and most challenging of links courses.
The course hosted the first Open to be played outside Scotland in 1894 and, more than a century on, has proved to be one of the most enduring venues for golf's oldest major.
Although the setting has changed little over the years, the course has been lengthened by 246 yards for the 2003 Open Championship.
The changes include the creation of eight new tees and a new green at the long 14th hole.
Named the Suez Canal after a stream which runs across the fairway, the 14th is 43 yards longer than when Greg Norman won the title there in 1993.
