York City midfielder Steven Hogg could be in line for a surprise return to the first team by the end of the season.
The 23-year-old has hardly played this year because of a string of injuries but he has made a successful return to action for the team's reserves.
Manager Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York he has a chance of making the FA Trophy final at Wembley on 9 May.
"He's had a lot of niggles and freak injuries, so hopefully this now might be the start of things."
Meanwhile, youth team coach and former Scunthope forward Steve Torpey also played for York City's reserves in their game against Leeds United.
Foyle would not rule out him playing again in the future.
He said: "He's available. He did well for 60 minutes. He's another body around the place we could use.
"You don't know what's going to happen in the next eight games.
"Anybody could go down and you never know he might be involved in the squad in some way."
