York City clinch double signing

York City

York City have signed central midfielders Steven Hogg and Ben Wilkinson for the forthcoming season.

Left-footed Hogg, 22, has joined the Blue Square Premier club from Gretna, he previously played for League Two side Shrewsbury Town.

Wilkinson, 21, was recently released by Hull City.

City manager Colin Walker told BBC Radio York: "These [two] players can play in a variety of positions, not just one position.

He added: "I think in the experience that I've had as a manager the thing you do need is a mix of experience and youth.

I know they say men can't multi-task but we're going to get these footballers to do that

"If you look at what Aldershot had, they had the very same.

Hogg started his career at Manchester United when he was nine-years old and stayed there until he was released ten years later.

Wilkinson is the son of former Leeds United manager Howard Wilkinson.

He was a youth player at Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Derby County and had a trial with City in January.

Walker said: "I think Steven is six foot three, he's played left back, he's played left-sided centre half, we're trying to select players who can multi-task.

"I know they say men can't multi-task but we're going to get these footballers to do that."
