Vaughan knows he needs to hit top form to win back his England place |
Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon hopes Michael Vaughan can make a strong start to the new domestic season and earn a recall to the England squad. The former England skipper has not played for the national side since giving up the captaincy last August. Moxon told BBC Radio Leeds: "At the moment he's looking in fine shape. "I just hope he can start the season well with us and get his England place back because that's where we all want to see him playing." Vaughan hit 43 in Yorkshire's opening game of the season, an 80-run victory over Durham in the Friends Provident Trophy. With the England selectors delaying the naming of the squad for the first Test against the West Indies until 29 April, Vaughan has a final chance to stake his claim for a place when Yorkshire visit Durham again in the County Championship on Wednesday. | 606: DEBATE: |
The former England captain has targeted the number three spot, but faces competition from Ian Bell and Owais Shah. Moxon added: "Michael has been very impressive so far this pre-season. "He's worked extremely hard both on his fitness and on his cricket during the winter."
