Michael Vaughan knows he needs to hit top form to win back his England place |
Michael Vaughan missed the chance to stake a really good claim for a place in the England side, making 43 in Yorkshire's FP Trophy win over Durham. Vaughan looked set for a big score when he was bowled by West Indian Gareth Breese in Yorkshire's total of 268-7. Jacques Rudolph (73) and Gerard Brophy (66 not out) were the main contributors as the visitors won by 80 runs. In reply, 2007 winners Durham lost three wickets in the opening 13 overs, eventually being dismissed for 188. Only Dale Benkenstein (68) provided any real resistance for the 2007 champions, who lost Phil Mustard (0), Gordan Muchall (10) and Michael di Venuto (25) early in their response. Benkenstein shared a fourth-wicket stand of 68 with captain Will Smith, but when Smith fell to Ajmal Shahzad, it triggered a collapse which saw Durham lose their last seven wickets for 72 runs. Steve Harmison, another man hoping his early season county form will earn an England recall, had a poor day, going for 1-63 from just eight overs.
