Charlie Mulgrew is a step closer to a move to Swindon Town
Swindon Town manager Maurice Malpas is to speak to Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Charlie Mulgrew over a possible move to the County Ground.
The two clubs have agreed a fee for the 22-year-old Scot and Malpas has to now discuss personal terms with him.
But the Town boss told BBC Radio Swindon that he hopes to strike a deal.
"Wolves asked me not to speak to the player until we had agreed a fee," said Malpas. "But hopefully I can get something thrashed out quickly."
Mulgrew, who played under Malpas for Scotland's Under-21 side, has made just five league starts in two season at Molineux and spent the final three months of last term out on loan at Southend.
Meanwhile Malpas has given up hope of signing former Manchester United reserve player Ritchie Jones.
Having failed to return his calls, the young midfielder has opted to sign instead for Swindon's League One rivals Hartlepool.
A deal to bring Peterborough United winger Josh Low to Wiltshire also appears to be dead because of the terms of his current contract at London Road.
