Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has said he may consider starting George Boyd alongside Aaron Mclean against Preston on Saturday.

Posh have tried a number of different combinations up front and out wide in their opening three league matches.

"George has done better up front-up and Craig Mackail-Smith has scored two goals from wide," Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"We've got good flexibility when we play and we can change it around."

Boyd is yet to start a match up front for Posh this season, but has been switched to a more central role in each of the past two matches against Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom.

Ferguson feels his side's attacking intent will pay dividends sooner rather than later.

A Joe Lewis blunder set the Baggies on their way to a 3-2 victory on Tuesday, but Ferguson refused to be overly critical of his stopper.

"Joe will be disappointed with himself for the first goal, but starting with myself we have all got to improve as we're not getting results.," he said.

"We shouldn't single Joe out as there were other mistakes in the game and we've got to stop making errors."

Ferguson believes his men could easily have come away with six points from the games against Wednesday and West Brom.

Posh make the trip north to Preston on Saturday with Ferguson certain their first win is lying just around the corner.

"They know the league well, we've had reports and are a well organised and hard working team," he said.

"Jon Parkin is a handful as he's excellent in the box and we need to mark him well."

Tommy Williams will miss the match with the groin strain he picked up on Tuesday so Charlie Lee looks set to continue at left-back with Russell Martin coming in on the right.
