Peterborough United defender Russell Martin says he will do everything he can to stay in the side after regaining his first-team place.
The 23-year-old missed the first two games of the season but came on against West Bromwich Albion after left-back Tommy Williams suffered a groin strain.
Martin told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's up to me to take my chance now and cement my place back in the side.
"Hopefully I can carry on my form from last year and kick on again."
The club captain was an ever-present in Posh's promotion winning campaign last season but manager Darren Ferguson opted to play Williams on the left-hand side of defence and Charlie Lee in Martin's recognised right-back role.
It was a decision the former Wycombe man says was hard to swallow but has since focused on working hard to get back in to Ferguson's first-team plans.
"There's only one way to deal with it and that's to get on with it and work even harder," he said.
"Obviously it was a massive disappointment not to be involved but you've got to let that disappointment spur you on."
