Purse has played 22 league games for Wednesday this season
Millwall have signed defender Darren Purse on a contract until the end of the season following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday by mutual consent.
The 33-year-old goes straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Leicester.
He is the second defender to arrive at the New Den this week following the loan capture of Jens Berthel Askou from Championship rivals Norwich.
Purse joined Wednesday in May 2009 on a two-year deal following his release by Cardiff City and captained the club.
Owls manager Alan Irvine told the Wednesday website: "He was always a first-class professional on the pitch and off it.
"Captaining the club was a role he took very seriously and he showed that in the dressing room and off the field with his work in the community."
He added: "I wish Darren nothing but the very best for the future."
Millwall boss Kenny Jackett told his club's website: "Darren brings great experience to the squad and strengthens us in the central defensive area where we are struggling at the moment.
"He's a Millwall fan and I'm sure he will relish the opportunity to play for this club."
Purse made 71 appearances for Wednesday, bringing his career total to 558.
Having started his career at Leyton Orient in 1994, he went on to play at Oxford United, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.
