Defender King pens new Gills deal

King previously had a four-year spell at Barnet

Gillingham defender Simon King has signed a new three-year deal with the League One club.

The 26-year-old was last season's player of the year after he helped the Gills win promotion from League Two via the play-offs.

King cost the Kent club £200,000 when he arrived from Barnet in 2007.

He is the third player in a week to extend his contract at Priestfield, after keeper Simon Royce and striker Andy Barcham.

King's accolades last season included being named in the Professional Football Association's League Two team of the year.
