King has spent the last four seasons in Barnet's colours |
Gillingham have signed Barnet defender Simon King for 200,000, who has agreed a three-year deal at Priestfield. The 24-year-old was transfer-listed by the Bees after rejecting a new deal, as he would have been able to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2008.
King made 167 appearances for the Bees after joining from Oxford in 2003.
His agent Richard Rosser said: "It was key to Simon's decision that the club which gave him his real break in football would be handsomely rewarded."
Rosser added: "He would like to take this opportunity to thank Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous, manager Paul Fairclough and, most importantly, Barnet's supporters for making his time at Underhill such a memorable one.
"He is looking forward to his move and was very impressed with the set up at Gillingham and their manager Ronnie Jepson."
