Davis warns players to perform

Steve Davis
Crewe will be looking to bounce back from relegation at the first attempt

Crewe Alexandra assistant boss Steve Davis is warning players who start against Dagenham on Saturday their places are far from secure.

"There are no guarantees of places because we have players in the the squad capable of going straight into the team." Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.

Crewe complete their pre-season on Tuesday night against Premier League newcomers Birmingham City.

The Alex will be kicking off in League Two for the first time in 15 seasons.

Davis returned to his former club in July as the number two to manager Gudjon Thordarson.

"The pre-season has been positive so far it's important that we have played different types of teams and faced different problems," Davis added.

"We have seen the Premier League teams have technique, movement and shape, while the lower league sides have been more physical - and we have had to cope with that.

"From a fitness point of view, I think the players have got a lot out of it."

Crewe have yet to make final decisions on whether they will be offering deals to the two players they have on trial - Carl Martin (Wealdstone) and Max Chanot (ex-Sheffield United).
