Thordarson has only added two permanent signings during the summer
Crewe Alexandra are hopeful of making their fourth signing of the summer after revealing the club are in talks with Gunnar Mar Gudmundsson.
Alex manager Gudjon Thordarson has revealed the club are close to agreeing a deal for the Icelander.
"I'll know soon if that signing is likely to take place, and I hope it will be a permanent signing," Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I'm also looking into the loan market and seeing what is available there."
Gudmundsson spent some time training with the League Two club last season.
Thordarson has made three new additions to his squad so far this summer, with the Histon duo of Patrick Ada and Mat Mitchel-King arriving on permanent deals, while Tottenham goalkeeper David Button has signed on a six-month loan.
Meanwhile, former Sheffield United and Mansfield defender Maxime Chanot has joined the club on trial after impressing in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Port Vale on Saturday.
"I thought he did reasonably well. I want to have a look at him for a couple more days and go from there," added Thordarson.
