Carlisle United sign James Berrett from Huddersfield
Berret has been capped five times for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side
Carlisle have signed Huddersfield midfielder James Berrett for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal.
The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was one of seven players placed on the transfer list by Huddersfield this summer.
Berret said: "The manager [Greg Abbott] has made it clear he wants to take the club forward and I am looking forward to being a part of that.
"It made it an easy decision and I'm looking forward to a new challenge."
A product of the Huddersfield's academy, Berrett made nine appearances for the Terriers last season season, starting two games.
He's another that we have known about for a while and we think he has real potential
Carlisle boss Greg Abbott
Berrett has moved to Brunton Park despite interest from fellow League One side Tranmere Rovers.
Abbott said: "We've seen and heard only good things about him and we are looking forward to working with him in the weeks and months ahead."
The Halifax-born player has also represented the Republic of Ireland at both Under-18 and Under-19 level and received his first call-up to the Under-21 team for their Intercontinental Cup matches in Malaysia in May 2008.
Abbott added: "He's another that we have known about for a while and we think he has real potential."
