Earnshaw signs new deal
Robert Earnshaw celebrates his goal against Germany
Earnshaw scored on his Wales debut against Germany
Cardiff City striker Robert Earnshaw has pledged his long term future to the club by agreeing new terms on his existing contract.

The club have not yet released the exact details of the deal, but it is thought to be a five-year contract worth up to 1.25m with a bonus of 2,000 a goal.

Earnshaw's goal-scoring talents came to nationwide attention last month when he scored on his international debut in Wales' one goal victory over Germany in Cardiff.

Premiership newcomers Birmingham were rumoured to be one of many clubs ready to get their cheque books out, but Earnshaw always stressed he was happy to stay at Ninian Park.

His agent, Mel Eves, said the pint-sized striker was delighted with the new deal.

"It certainly brings him a lot nearer to the highest paid players at the football club," said Eves.

"If Earnie can get round 20 goals per season, he'll have a smile on his face. Cardiff believe in giving their players incentives to do well and I agree with their thinking."

Last season, Earnshaw scored 15 goals in an injury-hit campaign which took his career tally to 42 goals in 64 starts.

Fellow Bluebirds Rhys Weston and Daniel Gabbidon have already signed extended deals, and goalkeeper Neil Alexander is also expected to renew his contract.
