The 21-year-old Cardiff marksman emulated Rush in scoring the decisive goal to record Wales' second-ever win against the footballing giants. And the Liverpool star says Earnie should realise the scale of his achievement. "He was the man-of-the-match, and rightly so. There were lots of world-class, international players out there, but he was the best," said Rush.
"I hope he enjoys every minute of it, because he deserves to. "But what he has to do is look at the moment and say 'I want to do it again'. "It's the end of the season, and that'll give him time to reflect. Then he must come back with the desire to do the same thing - for Wales at the Millennium Stadium." Rush, a supreme finisher for club and country, was also impressed with Earnshaw's goal. "It was incredible because he got in front of (Christian) Ziege, and then the ball seemed to bounce away from him. "But he used his pace to get it back under control and then put the ball into the top corner - the only place where the goalkeeper couldn't get to it." Rush was not the only striking admirer of Earnshaw's performance. German target man Oliver Bierhoff was also impressed at the youngster's display.
"He is very fast and a very quick player," said the Monaco marksman. "He got into some good positions and was always looking to create scoring chances for either himself or other players around him. "Earnshaw is a very good player and has the potential to be a top-class striker." Wales boss Mark Hughes' only problem is what to do with Earnshaw when injured Craig Bellamy returns. Rush thinks he can play both speedsters alongside John Hartson. "If you've got pace, you've got a chance. Those two, plus Ryan Giggs, could frighten any defence in the world." | See also: Other top Wales stories: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
