Cambridge United boss Martin Ling has moved to reassure fans that new-boy Daryl Clare's injury problem is being looked after and is under control.
A damaged buttock muscle kept the 31-year-old frontman out of Wednesday's 2-0 friendly win over Mildenhall.
Ling told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire "He's been training, but doing very little training.
"We feel the muscles around the problem need to be strengthened up. If we move too quickly we will break him down."
He added: "We want to make sure we cure the problem and it's cured for all of the season.
"We won't be rushing him but he will play some part in pre-season and there's no problem."
The victory over Mildenhall, secured by a Danny Wright tap-in and an Adam Marriott penalty, saw winger Robbie Willmott play as a striker.
The 20-year-old's performance was a highlight for the U's boss.
"He was probably the best player on show tonight if I'm perfectly honest," he said.
"We were one man short up-front and Robbie was our best forward, so you tart to think maybe you can spend your money in other areas."
