Burnley midfielder James O'Connor has left the club after failing to agree terms on a new contract.
Clarets boss Owen Coyle has withdrawn his offer after O'Connor, 28, asked for more time to weigh up his options.
Coyle told the club's website: "After speaking to him again, he wanted the opportunity to see what was out there.
"Given that he couldn't commit, we've parted ways. James worked hard for us but I need people to commit, so he leaves with our best wishes."
Coyle added: "I wish him every success, except of course when he plays against us."
O'Connor made 149 appearances for the Turf Moor club, scoring 11 goals.
Signed from West Bromwich Albion in 2005 by ex-manager Steve Cotterill, his energy levels and workrate made him a popular player with the fans.
David Unsworth has got a lot to think about because I've offered him the role of player-coach

He becomes the fourth out-of-contract player to leave during the close season, Jon Harley, John Spicer and Garreth O'Connor having already moved on.
Coyle admitted he is still keen to keep defender David Unsworth but understands why he is taking some time to decide.
"David has got a lot to think about because I've offered him the role of player-coach," the Burnley boss told BBC Radio Lancashire. "I feel he might not play as many games next year as he's done this year."
The Burnley boss is also aware there are a number of factors which could affect 34-year-old Unsworth's final decision.
"There's obviously a financial implication in that it's structured differently to what he's used to.
"He's now got to think does he totally want to concentrate on playing for another year which would not make the offer so attractive," said Coyle.
"So we'll have a chat within the next couple of days, which is only fair given that he would be taking a drop in finance if he wasn't playing."
