Mifsud has won 60 caps for Malta

Coventry City forward Michael Mifsud has joined Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has made 29 appearances for the Sky Blues this season, scoring two goals.

He told the Barnsley club website: "Barnsley showed non-stop commitment to getting me to join them.

"I had the chance to join other Championship clubs but the important thing is to get the chance to play in a direct attacking role."

Mifsud joined Coventry from Norwegian side Lillestrom in January 2007.

"I was close to signing a permanent deal, but I needed more time to think it through and time was in short supply," said Mifsud.

"Now I can't wait to get playing and help the team move forward."

Mifsud is set to make his debut for Barnsley in Tuesday's Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
