Argentina legend Diego Maradona beat goalkeeper Peter Shilton with his infamous 'Hand of God' goal to knock England out of the 1986 World Cup but Shilton played on.
He was made captain for his 100th cap, against Holland at the 1988 European Championship finals, but Marco van Basten ruined his day, scoring three as England lost 3-1.
Shilton did not concede a goal as England qualified for the 1990 World Cup finals.
His 124th cap came when England lost to West Germany in a last-four penalty shoot-out and he bowed out, at the age of 40, after the third-place play-off defeat by Italy.
