Goalkeeper Peter Shilton holds the record for most England appearances, winning 125 caps between 1970 and 1990.
England won 66 of those games but their failure to reach the 1974 and 1978 World Cup finals meant Shilton was 32 by the time he played his first finals match.
Shilton went on to play in 17 finals games and kept 10 clean sheets, reaching the quarter-finals in 1986 and the semi-finals in 1990.
He would have won more caps had successive managers Don Revie and Ron Greenwood not alternated between him and Ray Clemence in goal from 1973 to 1982.
