York City's new signing Jamal Fyfield says he is enjoying his new role on the wing, having played nearly 100 games at left-back for Maidenhead.

Fyfield has scored once and won a man of the match award whilst playing wide-left in his first two games for City.

The 21-year-old told BBC Radio York: "I hadn't played left-wing for seven years, but I started as a left-winger.

"At first I was a bit gutted because I like playing left-back, but I thought I'll do my best for the team."

Fyfield started his full debut at Tamworth as left-back with James Meredith pushed up-field, but they swapped roles and Fyfield scored from the new position in the second half of the 3-1 win.

"Ports [Andy Porter, caretaker-manager] has been telling me to get into the box after the crosses, so I nipped in there," he added.

I'm hoping to take York to the highest point in the Football League

"It was a great ball in from Bazza [Neil Barrett]. My first touch wasn't the best but the ball was still there so I poked it in."

Fyfield started his career at Leyton Orient but after moving up from London, he feels he has now settled into life at York.

"London's a bit more loud and a bit busy but I'm liking York at the moment, it's much quieter," he said.

"I'm hoping to take York to the highest point in the Football League so I hope they keep playing me and I keep doing well."
