Southport striker Steve Daly signs new two-year deal

Southport striker Steve Daly has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year contract.

The 28-year-old was the Blue Square North champions' top scorer last season with 23 goals in all competitions.

"I'm made up to have signed my new deal," Daly told the Southport Visitor. "It was an easy decision to make.

"I sat down with [manager] Liam Watson and we talked a few figures over and then I signed. Me staying on for two more years was never in doubt."

He added: "I had a few questions for Liam about who we were planning to sign and after he told me I put pen to paper.

"This deal will take me into my 30s and I don't rely on pace anymore so can keep playing after that.

"As long as the opportunity to play at a higher level doesn't arrive then I don't want to play for another club."

Passing the scoring record has got to happen this season and will be something I am incredibly proud of

After promotion back to the Blue Square Premier, Daly says he hopes next season will be another big season for the club and for him, as he hopes to become the club's all-time top scorer.

"Southport is great for me - the ground is 15 minutes from home and all my family and friends love coming to watch the games," Daly continued.

"Passing the scoring record has got to happen this season and will be something I am incredibly proud of.

"There is so much bouncing around between clubs in non-league so to have been at the club long enough to create a new scoring record will be something to be proud of."

Meanwhile, the club have signed versatile former Stockport County and Macclesfield player Matty McNeil.

McNeil, who is 6ft 5ins tall, left Stockport earlier this season and can play at centre-half, centre midfield or centre forward.
