Southport manager Liam Watson believes his side can continue their good form and be one of the title contenders in the Blue Square North this season.
Watson's side are top of the league and have won five of their last six games.
"I try to slip the league fixtures into three groups of fourteen and in the first group we got 28 points," Watson told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"If we get 28 points in the second group we're going to be there or there about's going into the run in."
He added: "This time in the run-in we've a lot more attacking options than we did last season so I'm looking forward to it.
The Sandgrounders 1-1 draw with Ilkeston Town on Saturday ended a run of five league wins, although Watson admitted his side did not deserve to win the game.
"If I'm honest a draw is a far result," Watson continued. "I think if we'd have won it it would have been papering over the cracks.
"We were second best in the first half and we never won enough second balls and never squeezed the game enough.
"Robbie Booth has got us out of trouble with a great finish and it was good play by Steve Daly. You thought maybe with 20 minutes to go, and the crowd behind us, we thought we'd have a good go.
"We had two good chances and they haven't gone in but it would have been unjust on Ilkeston if we'd nicked it."
