We can play much better - Watson

Southport

Southport boss Liam Watson says he was pleased with the three points from the 4-2 win against Stafford on Tuesday but admits his side are not on top form.

"I think the performance was pretty sloppy and I thought for the first hour Stafford were the better team," Watson told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It was probably our physical presence and the fact we got our act together that got us the points."

Southport are third in the Blue Square North after the win at Haig Avenue.

But the match saw another match winning performance from striker Ciaran Kilheeney as he completed a hat-trick which takes his tally to nine goals from nine games this season.

Also on the scoresheet was centre-half Earl Davis and the Southport manager has been pleased with his contribution and fitness.

"Earl's in the best condition I've ever seen him," continued Watson. "He's trimmed down and he was always a big strapping lad anyway but he's in great shape.

"We used to use Earl as a bit of a decoy from set-pieces but we've actually been hitting him and he's repaid us. He's scored a couple of good goals and he hit the bar as well [against Stafford].

"He should be looking to get half a dozen goals for us this season."
