Wes Hoolahan and Gary Doherty got the goals as Paul Lambert's Norwich beat Tranmere to make it nine wins in their last 10 games in all competitions.
Managerless Rovers produced a resolute display, holding firm until John Welsh handled Adam Drury's shot, Hoolahan dispatching the penalty with ease.
The scorer then turned provider when his pin-point cross was volleyed in superbly by Doherty.
Tranmere had their chances but the win pushes Norwich up into fifth place.
Rovers remain one off the bottom after stretching their poor run to just one win in eight games.
Norwich manager Paul Lambert told BBC Radio Norfolk:
"I said it would be a dangerous game because of where Tranmere were in the League, and so it proved.
"The weather's not great and, when the rain falls and the wind swirls, it's difficult to play.
"But great credit to the lads, they kept at it and got the result."
Tranmere Rovers caretaker manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"I thought the lads were superb.
"We've come to a club that will most likely be pushing for an automatic promotion place.
"We've done ourselves proud."
