Southport boss Watson happy to be second - for now

Southport

Southport manager Liam Watson insists his side are satisfied with second place in the Blue Square North after beating Workington 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Sandgrounders are level on points with table-toppers Fleetwood Town, but trailing on goals scored.

Watson told BBC Radio Merseyside: "As long as we're top of the league come April, that's the main time we aim to be top.

"We have just got to get on with the games and get the points on the board."

But the Southport manager is pleased to have midfielder Alan Moogan and defender Kevin Lee back in the fold as they battle for the league title.

"The pleasing thing for me is we've got two of our big players back in Alan and Kev," said Watson. "They've both been out for a good while and they're coming back.

"That's really positive for us in the run-in. Every manager in the league knows that when those two are in the team, it makes us a much better side."

Southport face play-off hopefuls Droylsden at Haig Avenue on Saturday.
