Lewes have been granted another stay of execution as they battle to settle debts to HM Revenue and Customs.

The Blue Square South side had been given three months to settle a £117,000 debt back in September or face a winding-up order.

But the High Court has now extended the deadline until 13 January 2010.

Lewes managing director Martin Elliott told BBC Sussex: "We made a commitment to repay the monies. We've requested time to do that and it's been granted."

Elliott added: "We've made significant strides over the last three months to pay the HMRC debt and they've given us some further time to make some further repayments.

"We're going to discuss it with those individuals that have helped us and hopefully plan for the future."
