Tigers put in Blue Square North

Non-league

Gloucester City will play the 2009/10 season in the Blue Square North while Worcester City remain in the Blue Square South.

The Tigers, who were promoted from the Southern League Premier Division, will play in the North because of a geographical imbalance of teams.

Worcester moved from the Blue Square North to the South division last year.

Tigers manager David Mehew told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "It will be a good experience for the lads."

Gloucester play their home games at Cirencester Town, which is 44 miles south of Worcester's St George's Lane ground.

The Tigers will face long trips to Blyth and Workington, with Redditch being their nearest neighbours at more than 60 miles away.

But Mehew highlighted travelling times in the southern division can be equally time consuming.

Gates are better in the North and I'm told that the way we play will suit us better in the North

"All the players would have been looking at the Bath and Newport games as local games they were really looking forward to playing in," he added.

"But apart from those you're playing here, there and everywhere."

An FA spokesperson confirmed to BBC Hereford & Worcester: "We've agreed that a complete review of the current league boundaries will take place next season."

And Tigers boss Mehew added: "We've been given what we've got for next season and they're going to review it so that sort of tells me that so long as we stay up we'll be in the south.

"Gates are better in the North and I'm told that the way we play will suit us better in the North."

Worcester will be joined in the South by relegated trio Woking, Weymouth and Lewes, Isthmian League champions Dover Athletic and play-off winners Staines Town.

Meanwhile, Gloucester have boosted their playing ranks by signing forwards Will Morford and Mike Symons.
