Skipper set for Forest Green exit

Forest Green Rovers

Defender Darren Jones is considering a move away from Forest Green Rovers after not being handed a new contract by the Blue Square Premier club.

The 25-year-old has been linked with Hereford United.

"I have had some good times at Forest Green, but the time is right to move on and take up a new challenge," Jones told the Stroud News & Journal.

The ex-Wales Under-21 player joined on loan from Bristol City in 2002, signing a permanent deal four years later.

He was club captain last season but is one of a number of players out of contract at the New Lawn.

Manager Jim Harvey is hoping to hold on to leading scorer Andy Mangan, Paul Stonehouse, Conal Platt, Jonathan Smith, Ben Ashford and Mark Preece. All six have been offered contracts in a bid to keep them at Forest Green.
