Gloucester City will play their home games at Cirencester Town next season
A first-half goal by Matt Rose earned Gloucester City promotion over Farnborough into the Blue Square South.
The midfielder pounced to score from 12 yards after Farnborough failed to clear Lee Marshall's long throw after 30 minutes at Cherrywood Road.
City keeper Kevin Sawyer produced a flying save to deny Michael-Lee Charles in the first half.
The win takes City into the second tier of non-league football for the first time in nine years.
Tigers coach David Mehew told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "For my first year in charge this is going to be hard to beat. That result is the icing on the cake for a lot of hard work.
"I have my wife and a good friend of mine, Mike Kilgour, who played a lot of football for Gloucester City, to thank for this.
"When I was offered the job I initially said no but after a bit of soul searching I thought if I hadn't taken it, I would never know how I would do.
"Matt Rose said a few weeks ago he would get a goal on the last day of the season and he was proved right."
