Harrogate Town manager Neil Aspin has written off any hope of winning the Blue Square North title, following the 1-0 New Year's Day defeat at Farsley.
Town slipped one place to fifth after Mark Jackson's 54th-minute header, while Town skipper Darren Dunning missed a last-minute penalty.
Apsin said: "We don't have any chance of winning the title. We've got to try and get into the play-offs."
Town are seven points behind leaders Tamworth but have played more games.
Aspin continued: "Everything about the performance was good, it's just the result that was very hard to take.
"[The goal] should have been disallowed - he had both hands on his [defender's] shoulder."
At the other end Farsley keeper Curtis Aspden anticipated where his former Town team-mate Dunning would place his spot-kick and made the save.
"We all know what football's like, sometimes you don't get what you deserve," Aspin added.
"I felt we played better than the previous game against Farsley [which Town won 1-0] and we certainly deserved to win the match.
"I'm probably more disappointed than I've been at any stage of the season at the result we've had."

"We haven't achieved that over the last two years after being up there.
"In previous years we've fallen away, this year we're probably going to have to make up some ground... I feel we're capable of doing that."
