Harrogate Railway's new manager Phil Sharpe has targeted "getting away from this relegation area as soon as possible" as his short-term priority.
Railway are next to bottom of Unibond First Division North after 12 games.
After going out of the FA Trophy 1-0 to Leigh Genesis, Sharpe told BBC Radio York: "There's not a lot of confidence.
"We've evaluated the squad and we're lacking a bit of quality in certain areas, short-term we need to bring that quality into the football club."
Sharpe took over from Dave Morgan after the club failed to win any of their opening 12 games in all competitions.
He added: "There is some quality here, but confidence is a massive part of the game and the players have lost their confidence.
"It's very hard to evaluate when you're in a team that's used to getting beaten because you can't really see the true player himself.

Sharpe has been in four relegation battles, as manager or assistant manager, with Bradford Park Avenue his only failure.
His successes were at Frickley, Guiseley and Wakefield-and-Emley.
"I'm pretty experienced at this, we've plenty of time to get this turned round and I'm quite sure we can."
