Harrogate Railway seek new boss

Harrogate Railway Athletic expect to appoint a new manager "fairly quickly", according to chairman Rob Northfield.

Dave Morgan resigned as manager following a run of no wins in 12 games which left the side next-to-bottom of Unibond One North.

Morgan's assistant Stuart Waddington took temporary charge for Saturday's surprise FA Trophy preliminary round 2-1 home win over FC Halifax.

"He said he would know all along when it was time to go," Northfield said.

"I always said to him that I had belief and trust in his ability to turn it around, but we did need to do something different and he realised that," he added.

We're looking for a good man-manager who respects these players

Northfield outlined the qualities he would require of Morgan's successor.

"The manager needs contacts, so he needs to have played at a decent level or to have been on the circuit for a while.

"Then, and I'm going to stress this, [I want] someone who has the ability to treat footballers like human beings and not just like pieces of meat running about on a field, that you can abuse and shout at and scream at.

"We're looking for a good man-manager who respects these players."

Northfield believes that such a manager would bring long-term rather than short-term benefits for the club.

"It's a club where if you play for Harrogate Railway you are respected, you are not just a number."
