Harrogate veterans make history

Vale Park
Port Vale's ground hosted the Over-45s Cup final

Harrogate Veterans made history when their over-45s beat Barnstaple Veterans 2-0 to win the National Veterans Cup.

They became the first club to win two national age finals in the same season, after their over-40s team won the National Champions Cup in May.

Manager Paul Bell told BBC Radio York: "It was a great experience and Vale Park is a fantastic stadium.

"It was a wonderful pitch to play on, for most of the guys it was their first experience of a League pitch."

Long-serving player Ian Skinner added: "It was an unbelievable day."

Currently we probably are the most successful veterans club

Skinner has been playing football for more than 40 years, having started with Harrogate side Bilton Dynamoes in 1966 and then playing for Harrogate Railway and Harrogate Town.

"Some of the veterans trophies have been the most rewarding, currently we probably are the most successful veterans club."
