Pace bowler Steve Patterson has signed a new two-year deal with Yorkshire that will keep him at Headingley until the end of the 2010 season.

Patterson took 11 wickets at only 25.36 in four County Championship appearances during the 2008 season.

The 24-year-old said: "I'm very pleased I have been given the opportunity to stay at the club where I have grown up.

"I am at the stage in my career where it is important for me to play regular first-team cricket."

He added: "I am going to work hard over the winter months to make sure that happens with Yorkshire."

Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan said: "I am delighted that Steve has committed his future to the club.

"Whenever he got a chance this summer he took it with both hands and delivered important wickets when we needed them.

"He should get more chances in 2009 to cement a first-team place and I am sure he has a bright future."

As well as impressing in his County Championship appearances, Patterson also recorded memorable figures of 8-1-18-2 in his only one-day performance against Lancashire in the Friends Provident Trophy match at Headingley.
