Boston United began life in the Unibond Premier Division with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Ossett Town on Wednesday.
Jon Froggatt headed the Pilgrims in front at York Street, and after David Briggs levelled, a brace from Ollie Ryan made it 3-1 at half-time.
The visitors' Ashley Longstaff made it 3-2 after the break as Boston missed several chances to kill the game off.
Manager Tommy Taylor told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It's three points, but we were poor in the second half."
The Pilgrims were demoted from the Blue Square North for breaching administration rules.
