Double win for Haslam at Cadwell

Leon Haslam
Haslam has won five times at Cadwell Park in the last four years

Leon Haslam claimed a double win at Cadwell Park in Monday's ninth round of the British Superbike Championships.

Haslam, whose HM Plant Honda team is based near the circuit, told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "Both races went to plan and I'm over the moon for the guys."

The top three was the same for both races, with Tom Sykes finishing second ahead of Shane Byrne.

Byrne maintained his 110-point lead in the standings, with Sykes and Haslam moving up to second and third.

Sykes, who claimed pole position at the 2.18-mile circuit, set the pace in the early stages of both races on the Rizla Suzuki before Haslam made identical moves at the end of the Park straight to take the lead.

Sykes, who is eight points ahead of Haslam in the riders' championship, admitted: "I really wanted to win but unfortunately couldn't make it happen, but it's good to move up to second."

Byrne brought the Airwaves Ducati home for a brace of third places to leave the Lincolnshire circuit with the same advantage that he had going into the round.

He said: "I really wanted victories, that's what I'm paid for, but we've done the best job we can and I really enjoyed myself.
