Chelsea made sure of the title on the final day of the season

Chelsea clinched the Premier League title on the final day of the season, and will take their place in the Champions League group stages next season with Manchester United and Arsenal - while fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur face a play-off before joining the others in the Champions League.

English clubs are offered three places in the Europa League - for the FA Cup winners, the Carling Cup winners and the fifth-placed team in the Premier League.

However, Carling Cup winners Manchester United have already qualified for the Champions League, as have Chelsea who beat Portsmouth in the FA Cup final.

Burnley's relegation was confirmed after a heavy defeat by Liverpool

The FA and Premier League decided that Pompey should not play in Europe as they had not applied for a Uefa club licence (as administration meant they were not in a position to file their accounts), and rejected the club's appeal.

So the teams finishing sixth and seventh qualify for the Europa League - and England's representatives will be Manchester City, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Portsmouth (who were deducted nine points after entering administration), Hull City and Burnley are relegated to the Championship.

Newcastle were promoted on 6 April

Champions Newcastle United and runners-up West Bromwich Albion will be promoted to the Premier League, along with Blackpool who won the play-off final against Cardiff City on 22 May.

Peterborough United, Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday are relegated to League One.

Norwich clinched promotion on 17 April and the title a week later

Champions Norwich City and runners-up Leeds United will be promoted to the Championship, together with Millwall who beat Swindon Town 1-0 in the play-off final.

Four teams make the drop to League Two - Stockport County, Southend United, Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham.

Notts County clinched the League Two title with a win over Darlington

Notts County, Bournemouth and Rochdale clinched the three automatic promotion places, and will be joined by play-off winners Dagenham & Redbridge who beat Rotherham United in the final on 30 May.

Rock-bottom Darlington are relegated to the Blue Square Premier along with Grimsby Town.

Chester City's demise means only three teams will be relegated

Champions Stevenage and play-off winners Oxford United are promoted to the Football League.

Chester City were expelled from the Football Conference on Friday 26 February, liquidated and their results subsequently expunged, so only three teams will be relegated from the division - Grays Athletic, Ebbsfleet United and Forest Green Rovers finished in the relegation places.

However, Salisbury City were subsequently relegated two divisions after a breach of Conference rules on unpaid debts - handing a reprieve to Forest Green.

Four teams are promoted to the Blue Square Premier - Blue Square North champions Southport and play-off winners Fleetwood Town, as well as Blue Square South champions Newport County and play-off winners Bath City.

Rangers made sure of their 53rd SPL title on 25 April

Rangers clinched their 53rd SPL title and should enter the Champions League at the group stages, while runners-up Celtic will enter at the third qualifying round.

However, from 2011/12, the SPL will lose one of its two Champions League places after Belgium overtook Scotland in Uefa's coefficient ranking table.

Dundee United and Hibernian qualify for the Europa League after finishing third and fourth. As United also won the Scottish Cup, the additional Europa League place went to the fifth-placed SPL team, Motherwell.

Falkirk are relegated to Division One.

Champions Inverness Caledonian Thistle have returned to the SPL at the first attempt.

Bottom club Ayr United are relegated to Division Two, whilst last-but-bottom Airdrie United were relegated after losing to Second Division side Brechin in their play-off semi-final.

Champions Stirling Albion and play-off winners Cowdenbeath are promoted to Division One.

Bottom club Clyde are relegated to Division Three, as are Arbroath who lost to Third Division side Forfar in the play-off final.

Title winners Livingston and play-off winners Forfar are promoted to Division Two.

There is no relegation from this division, although bottom club Montrose have finished as the lowest club in Scottish senior football this season.
