Portsmouth entered administration in February

Portsmouth were relegated to the Championship following West Ham's victory against Sunderland on Saturday.

The south-coast side, who face Tottenham in the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley on Sunday, prop up the Premier League table with 14 points.

Ilan scored the only goal of a tense match at Upton Park as the Hammers won to confirm Pompey's fate.

Pompey were docked nine points for entering administration in February and Avram Grant's side failed to recover.

It has been a torrid time for Grant, who took over from Paul Hart in November.

The club have been forced to sell their best players, including England duo Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe to Tottenham, and have struggled on the pitch as a consequence.

Several players also left in the January transfer window, further debilitating Grant's squad.

Destabilised by crippling debts believed to be about £60m the club has also had four changes of ownership this season.

Pompey had been fighting for most of the season to avoid administration with players and staff not paid on more than one occasion.

But on 26 February Portsmouth became the first Premier League club to enter administration and were later docked nine points and are still trying to find a buyer.
