The victory means that the London side have won three, drawn one and lost one of their five games since Russell Slade was appointed manager on an initial short-term deal in early April.
Prior to Saturday's match Wanderers had also experienced an up-turn in form, winning three and drawing one of their previous four fixtures to keep alive their hopes of avoiding an instant return to League Two.
But Wanderers are now six points adrift of safety with one game left.
Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade told BBC London 94.9:
"When I took over, nothing else mattered except for the results and to get three home wins since then is credit to the players.
"The win allows me and the football club to plan a little bit for the future.
"It was a tense affair. Wycombe threw everything at us but we managed to hang in there, grind it out and get the right result."
Wycombe manager Gary Waddock told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"The performance in the second half was very good, but we are now a League Two side and we have to prepare for that.
"The lads gave everything in the second half and we didn't get the goals we needed.
"They had the breakaway and finished. That is the difference between winning and losing."
