Fortune in scoring form against Motherwell in the Uefa Cup

Hull boss Phil Brown says he may have to look to other transfer targets if he cannot conclude a deal with Nancy striker Marc-Antoine Fortune soon.

Brown has still to hear from Fortune, 27, despite Nancy's director of football saying he would decide between Hull and Celtic over the weekend.

"If there's no decision in the next 24 or 48 hours, we are going to have to move on to other players," said Brown.

"We feel we're favourites, but it's a concern when it's not done and dusted."

Brown is also hoping to conclude a deal for Manchester United striker Frazier Campbell and is now poised to make an approach for Michael Owen once the England striker's contract with Newcastle ends on Wednesday.

Nancy have accepted bids from both Hull and Celtic for Fortune and the French club's sporting director Nicolas Holveck said earlier that the English Premier League club were in pole position to secure the striker's services.

However, Brown had heard that a new club had been linked with the striker, who impressed while he was on loan at West Brom last season.

"Marc-Antoine has an offer from us and an offer from Celtic and someone has said something about West Ham," said Brown.

"That is news to us. But, if so, so be it. We are now in a three-horse race as opposed to a two-horse race."

Hull chairman Paul Duffen had told BBC Radio Humberside on 24 June that Fortune had agreed personal terms with the Tiger, and he was hopeful of tying up the deal in a couple of days.

Fortune played under Tony Mowbray at West Brom and the new Celtic manager appears keen to make the forward his first signing.

He scored five goals in 18 appearances for the Baggies, who finished bottom of the Premier League.

But Celtic coach Peter Grant, who moved with Mowbray from the Hawthorns to Celtic Park, was impressed by the forward's contribution, saying: "Marco is a quality player and we were very impressed by just how well he did for us last season.

"People say he didn't have a fantastic scoring record. But look at the goals from midfield after he came in.

"The goals the other boys scored because of the way he played was phenomenal.

"Marco had a great ethic about him in his training as well as his playing. He was a privilege to work with."
