Station View will host the tribute game to Adam Tennant

A special match in honour of Spa Athletic player Adam Tennant will take place on Sunday 9 November at 1400 GMT.

Tennant, 41, collapsed and died six minutes into the game between Spa Athletic reserves and Kirk Deighton reserves one year ago.

Proceeds from the game will go to the children's cardiac charity CRY at the request of Tennant's widow Amanda.

Organiser Shaun Gill said: "Adam never had a bad word to say about anybody."

Spa Athletic play in the Harrogate Premier Division, while their reserves play in the Second Division.

Tennant played for the club for 20 years and Gill added: "It's something we wanted to do as a club to honour him.

"Our former chairman John Ward... spoke to Rob Northfield, the chairman of Harrogate Railway, and he was only too pleased to accommodate us."

The game will feature a rotating mix of around 30 Spa Athletic players against a Kirk Deighton XI.

Gill explained: "We have asked people of the past Spa teams who have played alongside Adam Tennant if they would like to come along and play their part."

Admission will be 2, with free entry to concessions.

"From the time that I've known Adam he was a complete gentleman," Gill added, "he was a friend, a great sportsman, great family man, 700 people at his funeral speaks volumes really."
