Women's tour match, Delhi: England 182-8 beat India A 145 by 37 runs Rosalie Birch was the top scorer in England's innings |
Rosalie Birch took 6-24 as England's women warmed up for the Test in Delhi with a 37-run win over India A. They ran into problems for the first time on their winter tour as tight bowling restricted them to 182-8.
Birch top scored with 30 and skipper Charlotte Edwards rounded off the innings with 26 not out.
Karuna Jain (48) and Monica Sumra (29) launched India A's reply with a stand of 67 but wickets fell regularly after they had been separated.
Only two other batters reached double figures as England's attack supported Birch well, with seamers Katherine Brunt (1-20) and Isa Guha (1-33) getting through a full complement of 10 overs.
Vice-captain Arran Brindle led the team in the field after Edwards had to go off, and she also picked up a wicket to go with her 24 runs earlier in the day.
"Arran did a great job as stand-in captain and it was a really good team performance," Birch told ecb.co.uk.
"To be honest all the bowlers deserved a few wickets and I picked up a few that perhaps should have gone to others, but I'm really happy to take them and we're all really pleased with the performance."
She added: "We've now got two days to recover and prepare to get stuck into the Test, which we're really looking forward to."
