First women's one-day international, Faridabad: England 188-7 (50 overs) beat India 168-9 (49.5 overs) by 20 runs Jenny Gunn hit a maiden international half-century |
England opened their one-day series in India with their first win in the country for 10 years. Jenny Gunn hit a maiden half-century and off-spinner Laura Harper took 4-33 in the 20-run victory in Faridabad.
Put in to bat, captain Charlotte Edwards made 68 and was joined by Gunn, who faced 101 deliveries for her 56, in a third-wicket stand of 90.
Spinner Neetu David hit back with 4-48 to keep the tourists to modest 188-7 but India were stopped short on 168-9.

Opener Monica Sumra hit 53 but the hosts suffered a similar late collapse, losing six wickets for 15 runs.
England had lost their previous seven one-day internationals on the last two tours in India but are now well-placed in the five-match series.
Gunn said captain Clare Connor's absence through injury gave her the opportunity to make an impression with the bat.
"I've been given a chance batting at four with Connie not here so I get a chance to build an innings," she told BBC Sport.
"Charlotte Edwards really helped me when we were batting, especially against the spinners.
"It's a big win because we don't always hit our straps early and hopefully we can take this momentum into the rest of the series."
