Hughes has been one of the few plus points in a difficult season

Derbyshire batsman Chesney Hughes has picked up a hat-trick of honours - including the player of the year gong - at the club's end-of-season awards.

He won the top award after scoring 1340 runs in all competitions this season.

Hughes, who missed the first five games of the Championship season, hit two tons in amassing 754 runs at 44.35.

The 19-year-old, also won the Most Improved Player and Eddie Barlow Inspirational Performance for his unbeaten 96 against Gloucestershire.

The left-hander's innings, one of four additional half-centuries, was crucial to an astonishing victory over Gloucestershire at Bristol inside two days.

Hughes has also contributed 586 runs in limited-overs cricket with six half-centuries.

The County Championship player of the year award went to Chris Rogers for the second season in succession after another prolific campaign which saw the Australian left-hander score 1243 runs at an average of 56.50.

Wayne Madsen's Clydesdale Bank 40 batting average of 50.50 saw him named as Limited Overs player of the year while Wes Durston was an obvious winner of the Twenty20 award having scored 445 competition runs at 37.08.
