Match scorecard

LV County Championship

Glamorgan's bid for promotion to Division One of the County Championship is on the rocks following a rain-affected first day with Derbyshire.

The Welsh side, nine points clear of third-placed Worcestershire at start of play, slumped to 66-6 as Jonathan Clare and Greg Smith took two wickets each.

Jim Allenby (34 not out) and James Harris (25 not out) set about a recovery as Glamorgan closed on 120-6.

The home side need a win to guarantee their place in Division One.

Glamorgan captain Jamie Dalrymple decided to bat after winning the toss, but was soon left regretting his decision.

Derbyshire did not include Graham Wagg in their side, who is set to be unveiled by Glamorgan this week as a new signing for next season.

After a solid start with 31 on the board in the seventh over, Glamorgan then lost three wickets in the space of 24 balls.

Clare got rid of Gareth Rees and Dalrymple in successive overs and Ben Wright drove loosely at Smith's first ball.

It soon became 48-4 as Tim Groenewald accounted for Tom Maynard and a brief break for rain failed to help the home side.

They lost opener Mark Cosgrove for 32 to the first ball from Smith after the resumption and the sixth wicket fell when Mark Wallace drove a Steffan Jones delivery straight to Robin Peterson at extra-cover.

Allenby and Harris shared an unbeaten stand of 54 for the seventh wicket either side of lunch, before rain put a halt on proceedings.

Umpires David Millns and Steve Garratt took the players from the field at 1420 BST and play was abandoned for the day two hours later.
