Hughes scored an unbeaten half-century in his second innings |
Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris says Chesney Hughes's debut display in the Championship loss against Middlesex at Lord's was extremely encouraging. Hughes, 19, scored 41 and 59 not out but was powerless to prevent an outclassed Derbyshire side from suffering a heavy defeat. "In the context of the game he has shone," Morris told BBC Radio Derby. "For him to come out of this game with 100 runs under his belt on his debut at Lord's show he well has played well." Morris added: "He is a talent and we have a young cricketer on our hands who we want to keep developing and pushing forward."
