Derby County have agreed a two-year contract with experienced Doncaster Rovers left-back Gareth Roberts.
The 32-year-old Wales international, whose deal with Rovers expires at the end of June, will complete his move to Pride Park on 1 July.
Manager Nigel Clough told the club's website: "Gareth is an accomplished and steady defender.
"He is vastly experienced and has been on our target list for some time. We are pleased he has chosen to join us."
Rovers had offered Roberts a new deal but boss Sean O'Driscoll said his side could not compete with the terms that Derby were offering.
"We are aware of the figures that Derby are prepared to go to and are not in the same league," O'Driscoll said.
"It would be very difficult for a player to turn that down."
Roberts is the obvious replacement for full-back Jay McEveley, who has not been offered a new contract by the Rams.
Roberts was at Tranmere Rovers for seven years before joining Doncaster in 2006.
He made more than 150 appearances for the club and played a key role in helping them win promotion to the Championship.
